Grease Halloween Costumes

While Grease Halloween costumes have nothing to do with car hop costumes as such, they are both from the same time in history – the 1950's. So they could complement someone that chooses to dress up as a car hop or some other waitress costume, if people around then are in some form of Grease costume. Or maybe they would fit in with a 50's theme party around the Halloween period.

Grease Halloween costumes are basically costumes taken from the popular film Grease. There are both male and female costumes in the movie that remain popular to this day. However this article will focus on the male costumes and there are a few other articles dedicated to female costume already. The article will also touch on the genesis of the term Grease.

Grease is basically the shortened form of Greaser. Greasers were a predominantly male youth subculture in the 1950's. They started out a youth gangs that would ride motorcycles. The grease term came from their style. They could comb their hair with grease so that it would slick back against the scalp. They would also grow it longer by 1950's standards. They would wear black leather jackets and jeans or black pants.

Basically they were viewed with great suspicion by middle aged people of the time (or the parents of teenage kids of the time). This ensured that they would be extremely popular with teenagers and the subculture became a bit of a fashion trend in the late 1950's.

Films like “The Wild One” and “Rebel Without A Cause” incorporated some of the greaser styles into their themes. This made teenagers fall even more in love with the Greaser style. Boys wanted to be one and girls wanted to have a greaser boyfriend.

In the movie Grease, the local greaser gang was the T-birds. Danny, the male lead of the film, is a member of the gang. The gang acts all tough but in the end they are just teenage kids and they are motivated by the same things that most people are motivated by. They want to be liked or in Danny's case loved. Sandy is the girl that gets Danny's attention and the relationship that develops between the two is the main theme of the movie.
