Fetching Fraulein Costume
This is another German inspired car
hop costume, except of course the wearer doesn’t hop on any cars and she doesn’t deliver hamburgers or
milkshakes. She delivers beers and you might think of her as a server at a beer festival or the king of all
beer festivals, the Oktoberfest. This would make a great costume for any dress up occasion and even a
Halloween party if you were looking for something a little bit different.

Here are a few more details on the Fetching Fraulein Costume. This costume is a modern interpretation on the
classic alpine peasant dress known as the dirndl. So you might see a woman in a tavern or inn in some of the
countries in and around the alpine region. Notably Germany and Austria but also the northern parts of Italy and
even Switzerland.
The dirndl is made up of a bodice and blouse and a full skirt. You could also expect to see the wearer don an
apron. The apron is a tell tale indication that this outfit was worn by women to do housework or if they were
working outside the home, in pubs, taverns or inns. Thus it became identified as a classic serving costume.
This costume is a bit more risque than the classic dirndl. The first thing you will notice is that the length of
the skirt is much shorter than a traditional dirndl. This is a mini skirt and it is more appealing as a
costume.
Also, this outfit is a one piece costume. The bodice, blouse and skirt are all attached. This makes it easier to
wear but doesn’t look as authentic. Nevertheless, it is a fine looking outfit that is sure to get plenty of
attention at a party (even if you aren’t serving beers).
The skirt is a pink flared design that has a floral pattern on the edges. There is also a lace petticoat.
Moving up from the skirt is a pleated white apron that joins with a chocolate brown bodice. The bodice has a
pink ribbon decoration and ruffled white accents. The peasant style white top is next in the costume. It also has a
ruffle trim, especially around the sleeves.
A pink scarf is the finishing touch. It can be worn as in the picture on the head.
