Alpine Wench Costume

Alpine Wench CostumeThe Alpine Wench Costume is a new costume in the line of serving or waitress costumes, much like a car hop costume except with an Alpine theme or style. I’d say this has more of a Swiss look to it rather than say German or Austrian, given the colors (although Austrian colors are also red and white). It would make a fine costume if you were the host of a party around Oktoberfest or Halloween time.

The costume is another take on the Alpine dress known as the dirndl. I would say of all the costumes on offer here, it is most similar to the classic dirndl dress in fact because it has a long skirt and a more substantial apron. This women looks like a hostess whereas a number of the more skimpy outfits look more like cocktail waitresses or something like that.

I think it has been given the name wench in a good natured way to mean a serving wench or a woman that works in a bar as a bar maid. Wench is a complementary term even it it might not always be associated with positive connotations.

So what makes up the Alpine Wench Costume ? It is a dress that comprises the 3 or 4 items that make up a dirndl. The skirt is a deep blue color and goes down to the ankles. There is a large red and white apron on the front. It is predominately white with red ruffled trim and various floral patterns in the middle of the apron.

After the skirt is the bodice which has a double drawstring so that you can adjust the dress to your size and comfort. The bodice is a brown color with more Alpine flora patterns and red drawstrings.

The bodice ends below the bust and lets the white, peasant style blouse take over. This blouse is quite a low cut blouse with short ruffled sleeves. The cut of the dress highlights your figure and is sure to get plenty of attention at a party.

You could pair it with a lederhosen man costume if you are going as a couple or perhaps are a couple hosting a party. You will look like the perfect landlord and landlady of the tavern or Inn where ale is always on tap.
