The Saloon Girl's Hangout

Saloons were most popular in the American Old West.  Basically, a saloon was a local business establishment where people went to get their alcohol fix, kind of like the bars and pubs we have today.  It was in the 19th century when these were at their peak and mainly catered to cowboys, gamblers, gold prospectors, and miners.

Girls that spent their time in these establishments were either serving wenches (an early car hop costume maybe ?) or good time girls (I'm not sure what that quite means but you can use your imagination I guess). Basically, she worked in the Saloon and brightened up the day of a weary traveller that hadn't seen a woman in a few months.

Based on studies done by both historians and archeologists, it was in the year 1822 when the very first saloon opened.  This establishment was set up in Brown’s Hole, Wyoming.  Originally, its target was to serve fur trappers who would pass by on their expeditions- pretty far from the kind you see in Wild West flicks.  Those only came about when both towns and their populations started grow.  That was when the iconic bat wing doors came to be the standard entrance to these saloons.

Saloon Girl Costume Description

This costume is not really a car hop costume but it is similar and maybe a distant relation of that style of serving outfit. Whatever it is, it's guaranteed to be an instant hit at any party. You will be sure to tame any wild western cowboy you want with this sultry black and red one piece number.

The upper half is corset inspired.  The top is a deep red hue covered in an intricately designed web of lace.  Red chiffon ruffles run along the neckline giving it even more detail.    The ends of the puffed three fouth sleeves have the same ruffles except that they are colored black.  Two bows of the same red hue are placed on each side of the bodice right before where the bottom half begins.

The skirt is black with an organza trim and a red sequined lining, just what you need to add some sparkle to this dark toned costume.  Accessorize with a black chocker and top it all off with the matching headpiece of the same hues showcasing a huge plush black feather.

Although this outfit may be rather dark in terms of the color scheme, there is certainly nothing drab about the whole look.  Even though you are dressed up as a saloon girl, looking like that, any cowboy will be happy to serve you.
